What does a coach actually do?
A Coach’s role is to hold space for you, really listen to you, to question, to build awareness, to challenge, to have the difficult discussions and to support you. We help you to take away any resistance and blockages that may be holding you back and learn how to help yourself.
It is ultimately a journey of empowerment and self-discovery where you will maximise your own potential as a person – and dispel any false feelings and beliefs.
From one day to the next we all experience some form of change or transition in our life. For some people that is really exciting and they seem to thrive, but for many others they don’t do very well with that and become very stressed or anxious.
Why is it some of us have the right skills, attitude and tools to direct us through to this next stage and push us forward but others are unable to? What is holding them back? What is limiting their beliefs in themselves? What is sabotaging them? Why are some people so confident and sail through their life and others can’t seem to overcome their fears?
At MGC Coaching we believe that coaching is never “one size fits all”. Each person and their journey is unique. We have fixed programs designed for specific purposes and we also provide tailor made solutions for you.
The good news is that these tools can be used in any situation professionally and personally and the practice is future focused not concentrated on past experiences or past learnings.
****We highly recommend our Signature Emerald 8 Week Coaching Program. Once you have completed this rapid results breakthrough program you will have remarkable coachable skills in place to progress further if you choose to.****
What is the difference between a Coach / Mentor / Trainer?
COACH
- Future Focussed
- Asks open questions
- Enables Self Discovery
- Dispels false feelings & beliefs
- Can be applied in any situation
MENTOR
- Based on past experience
- Answers direct questions
- Provides information sources
- Seeks Alternate answers
- Structured
TRAINER
- Based on past learning
- Ask directive questions
- Provides information
- Seeks Specific answers
- Often Highly structured
In summary, the key difference lies in their approach and objectives:
- A coach facilitates self-discovery and empowers clients to find their own solutions.
- A mentor imparts advice and shares personal experiences to guide the mentee’s growth.
- A trainer delivers structured instruction to teach specific skills or knowledge.
While there are differences, these roles can sometimes overlap, and individuals may benefit from a combination of coaching, mentoring, and training based on their needs and goals.
Coaching goes beyond helping people when they feel stuck; it’s equally valuable when they are already in a good place but yearn for more. It caters to individuals who might be content with their current situation but have a deep sense of curiosity and a desire to explore greater possibilities for personal and professional growth. Whether it’s starting something entirely new or elevating their existing achievements to the next level, coaching can provide the guidance and support needed to make those aspirations a reality.
Benefits of Coaching
You will receive many benefits by dedicating time to your intentional growth with MGC Coaching.
Greater self-awareness.
Coaching participants have an opportunity to reflect in a non-judgmental space. They review situations, goals, and interactions and become more aware of what makes them tick.
Mindfulness.
This seems to be the new buzz word and might not be everyone’s cup of tea, however it really is just another way of learning how to be present and self-aware and by doing this you will discover how you are able to:
- Reframe Unhealthy Thoughts (overcome fears and relax)
- Avoid Triggers and Health Issues (anxiety, stress and confrontation)
- Calm Down
Mindfulness exercises are really just about slowing down, being in the moment, breathing and visualising. For some it may be meditation as well.
If left unchecked these feelings of stress and anxiety can lead to:
- Lack of Clarity – unclear on priority, goals, values
- Lack of Concentration – lose track of what’s important
- Lack of Courage – unable to take action / even the smallest tasks are too much
- Lack of Compassion – towards yourself – doubt yourself, too much pressure, self-sabotage
- Lack of Calmness – unable to centre yourself
- With Chronic Stress comes Chronic Health Issues and possibly Mental Health Issues
Improved communication.
In coaching, you are able to practice setting boundaries, asking for forgiveness or expressing regret, or potentially having those difficult conversations. You will also receive feedback on how your tone, mannerisms, and choice of words impact others.
More confidence.
Your coach may not always agree with you, and can’t give you the answers or do the work for you, but they’re always in your corner. Knowing that someone has your back and that you’re working to be the best you can be, boosts your self-esteem.
Accountability.
You will set clear goals that are intentional about the steps you need to take to stay focused and achieve these goals. Having a coach to keep you accountable helps to improve your chances of achieving your goals.
Better well-being.
Coaching is shown to help reduce stress and burnout.
Employees who are less stressed are healthier and spend less on healthcare services. Participants learn to manage their workloads with more efficiency. This has a positive impact on work-life balance.
Are there different types of coaching?
Coaches often work with clients in various aspects of life, such as personal development, life, career, relationships, or specific skills.
Life Coaching has a strong focus on the health and wellbeing of the clients we work with. The common denominators in people seeking out a life or wellness coach are:
- Stress and worry
- Anxiety
- Feeling a lack of direction and purpose
- Unhappiness
- Negative mind chatter
- Unable to set boundaries
- A feeling of overload or imbalance
- Inability to stay focused
- Constantly having negative thoughts and feelings
- Lack of confidence
- Poor self-esteem and constantly trying to people please!
- Poor health (through lack of energy and less activity)
When broken down further into career and leadership coaching the pain points are commonly as follows:
Executives
- Being under constant pressure, and not sure how to inspire and motivate others?
- How to be seen as an authentic leader?
- How to build trust with a new team?
- How to assert authority but also remain humble?
- Constantly being expected to deliver more with less. How do you achieve this?
- How to have greater influence and impact with stakeholders?
- No time for a personal life or work-life balance?
New & Emerging Managers
- Not being taken seriously by your staff now that you are their manager
- No idea how to undertake the yearly goal setting for your staff!
- No clue how to have the difficult conversations with your direct reports
- Time management is out the window now that you have a team to look after
- Work life balance is a thing of the past and stress and anxiety is your new best friend!
- You are struggling to manage yourself, and no idea how are you going to manage your team, imposter syndrome has set in!
- You are expected to develop relationships / client base but you are an introvert and have no confidence
- You are expected to inherit new skills relating to setting and managing expectations and the importance of feedback
- You want to develop an executive presence and you honestly don’t know where to start
- Now that you are a manager you struggle in work social situations, you want to be liked but also respected as their Manager
- Your staff come to you with serious issues that you are not equipped to handle
What is the process if I want to know more and/or start my journey now?
Get in contact and we will arrange a time for a Discovery Call.
The Discovery Call is referred to by many other names such as a “Strategy Session” or an “Introductory Session” or a “Mindset Healthcheck”.
It is basically just our first call and it is very similar to the style of a coaching session.
This would normally cost $495 but I’m pleased to offer this as a complimentary session so you can get the feel for what coaching is all about and my personal style. If you decide it’s not for you, there is honestly no pressure at all, at the very least you will definitely get some significant value from our time together.
This process is all about working out if we are a good match and being 100% authentic with each other otherwise it won’t work! It’s truly not something that can be forced so let’s see what happens!
